la ortodoncia es la rama de la odontología que se encarga de la alineación de los
dientes y de la corrección de problemas de mordida, así como también de guiar la
erupción de los dientes y el desarrollo de los maxilares produciendo así un equilibrio en
el aparato bucal y por ende en la columna cervical y dorsal, así como una estética ideal
del rostro.
es importante comprender que cuando se presenta el apiñamiento dentario existe un
déficit en el crecimiento de los huesos maxilares y el tratamiento consiste en estimular y
formar el tejido óseo necesario para la correcta ubicación de las piezas dentarias, no
menos importante es saber que cuando falta hueso la lengua se ubica mas para atrás de
lo normal provocando dificultad para la correcta pronunciación de las palabras
(dislalia) y dificultad respiratoria que se traducen en ronquidos durante el sueño,
menor rendimiento a la hora de la actividad física (se cansa más rápido) y en algunos
casos presentan ojeras.
con respecto a la estatura el cuerpo se adapta al déficit respiratorio y crece menos de lo
que podría lograr en condiciones normales.
en resumen, un ortodoncista es un especialista que se dedica exclusivamente a crear
sonrisas. cada vez más niños y adultos están conscientes de los enormes
beneficios esteticos y funcionales que conlleva realizar un tratamiento
de ortodoncia.
