New York’s Civil Court is often called “The People’s Court” because it’s where all people go to get a fair shake regardless of wealth, status, race or religion. Matthew Bondy is running in the June 28th Democratic Primary. He faces a primary challenger, Terence “Terry” McCormick, but it is Matt who is uniquely qualified to serve us in “The People’s Court.” Matt has been voted “most highly qualified” by the 2022 New York County Independent Judicial Screening Panel. A lifelong Democrat, he has been endorsed by the Samuel J. Tilden Democratic Club, one of the oldest and most highly respected Democratic clubs in New York City. Matt is the only candidate in the race who lives in the district and has been deeply rooted in the district his entire life. A native New Yorker, Matt was born and raised on the East Side of Manhattan in a four story walk up next to the Queensboro Bridge and he has lived in the neighborhood ever since. A proud product of the New York City public-school system, and a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, Columbia University, and Brooklyn Law School, Matt is both a respected litigator with more than twenty years of experience before nearly all New York Courts and a community leader and advocate.Matt’s been a lawyer in both the private sector with major law firms such as Montgomery McCracken Walker and Rhodes and for the City of New York. As an attorney and former General Counsel to the Mayor’s Office of Midtown Enforcement (now the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement), Matt worked to improve the quality of life and safety of those who lived, worked, and visited our beloved City by shutting down illegal clubs, unsafe buildings, drug spots and other real property based criminal enterprises located in midtown Manhattan. He now holds a legal key position with the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) and works with a team of dedicated lawyers and colleagues protecting the rights of New York City consumers and small business owners.As a community leader and advocate, Matt has demonstrated his deep-seated commitment to public service, our neighborhood, our City, and volunteerism, which has included decades of service on Community Boards 8 and 6 both as a member and an elected officer of each, the East Midtown Partnership, the Sutton Place Parks Conservancy, and programs that help those experiencing food insecurity.
