Virgen Rent A Car

we arrived to guayaquil in the middle of the night. stayed in a hotel then started calling rental car companies. the only one we found that had an automatic car that day to rent was virgen rent a car. my boyfriend and i do not know ecuador well so we asked for a gps for the car because we were driving long distance. 2 days into our trip, the car (suzuki vitara) broke down at 11am and left us stranded. we we finally pushed the car to a gas station in that heat, we called the owner of the company to let him know happened to the car. he told us to look for a mechanic somehow and call him back with what they said. i was ridiculous he wanted us to get someone to check the car for us but we did and it was the motor that was messed up. we called back and updated him and he said he will send the tow over to bring it back to guayaquil. (we were 3 hrs away from the city) when we agreed he said we also had to pay for the tow back to the city. it was over $150. we all got into a heated argument because he was trying to put the responsibility on us when we the issue was clearly their fault! the owner was very rude to us and even said he will not do anything that day because it is a sunday and he's on vacation as if we weren't smh. after a frustrating argument that got nowhere until 3 hrs later, we ended up riding in the car back to guayaquil on top of the tow truck. how unbelievable is that. we had to waste money on a hotel there to meet up in the morning to speak to him. because we lost a day with the car we asked if we could be receive a refund for one day since we were stranded and he spoke to us like idiots saying "i am giving you a better car that cost more per day and not charging you for it." we should have gotten a refund for a day but after arguing and commuting back 3 hrs we decided to leave it because we just wanted to get out of there and enjoy our vacation. in conclusion, do not use this company!
