We are happy to serve multilingual customer's. The business that is now known as E&L LEGAL AND TAX SERVICES began in 1988 as a small, one-man office on Fairgrove Street in La Puente. There, Leonardo V. Laconico, an entrepreneur by heart and by profession, decided to start a tax office. He had one desk and one part-time employee. During tax time, he worked 10 to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. In two years, Mr. Laconico's hard work and perseverance paid off. His clientele increased and the space he was renting became too small for his workload. In 1990, he moved to a larger office right next to Ace Merritt's Hardware - where it is now located, at 1240 North Hacienda Boulevard. Mr. Laconico's efforts to obtain more clients were relentless. With only one part-time assistant, he worked even harder. One day in March 1997, while Mr. Laconico was busy at work, an attorney walked in looking for a notary public. The tax man and attorney talked briefly, but by the end of the conversation, a business relationship had been formed. The attorney, Esperanza V. Bada, then was a sole practitioner and had an office in Rosemead. She was handling immigration, civil and criminal cases. Beginning in July 1997, Ms. Bada started interviewing clients in Mr. Laconico's office. A major portion of the clients had immigration problems, but a few came in for other types of legal problems. By December 1997, the legal clients grew so rapidly that Ms. Bada decided to close her office in Rosemead and move to Mr. Laconico's office, occupying the second floor of the building. Mr. Laconico and Ms. Bada had only two part-time employees: Cecilia Carrillo, a tax preparer, and a temporary secretary. The joint tax and legal office continued to attract more clients. Relatives and friends of clients came from as far away as San Francisco, California, Eloy, Arizona, and Miami, Florida. Clients flocked to the office during tax time, and the legal office quickly gained recognition as a strong advocate for individuals with deportation, civil, and criminal problems. In October 1998, Mr. Laconico and Ms. Bada became a married couple, and E&L Legal and Tax Services was born. Needless to say, "E" is Esperanza and "L" is, of course, Leonardo. Today, E&L has six employees, including two attorneys and four tax preparers
