Geomembrane and Geotextile
Geomembrane is impermeable membrane used widely as cut-offs and liners. Until recent years, geomembrane was used mostly as canal and pond liners; however, one of the largest current applications is to the containment of hazardous or municipal wastes and their Leachate which usually contains both dissolved and suspended material.. In many of these applications geomembrane is working with Geotextile or mesh under liners which reinforce or protect the more flexible geomembrane whilst also acting as an escape route for gases and Leachate generated in certain wastes. Geotextile is permeable fabric which, when used in alliance with soil, have the ability to separate, filter, strengthen, protect or drain. As the use of Geotextile fabrics has expanded with the introduction of Geotextile compounds and development of different products. Geomembrane anchor trench is typically used for landfills and reservoirs. The geomembrane comes up from the side slope and then runs over the top for a short distance. It then terminates vertically down into a trench dug by a backhoe or trenching machine. Anchorage is designed to prevent wind and water from moving under the geomembrane; it is not designed to allow Geomembrane to be tensioned. The anchor trench design should allow pullout of the geomembrane before tension failure, Geomembrane anchor trench design should prevent geomembrane tension rupture.
