Section 151 of the Road Traffic Act stipulates that the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of a trailer without parking brakes and being 750kg or less is limited to half the tare of the drawing vehicle. The GVM of a trailer with overrun brakes and being more than 750kg but less than 3500kg the GVM may not exceed the tare of the drawing vehicle. It is the customers responsibility to make sure that they are towing with the correct vehicle.
