The College was founded in 1999 to provide a quality, affordable, independent, English-medium educational opportunity in Louis Trichardt. The first few years were spent in a house in the town and the College moved to its present, purpose-built campus in 2002. The infrastructure has been steadily developed since 2002 to include laboratories, additional classrooms, a library and basic sporting facilities. The buildings are simple and functional in keeping with the College's commitment to conservation of the environment. The college his primarily a day school but does have a small boarding facility and is moving towards expanding this. There is one class per grade other than in Form I (Grade 8), the first year, where parallel classes operate in most subjects. Classes are kept to a maximum of 27. Admission is dependent on the student's ability and background as assessed in a series of tests. Ridgeway students have an excellent record of success in obtaining admission to the Universities of their choice and coming away with very good degrees.
