Home 40 derives itself from long-standing Montana roots. The first Montanans came here staking their livelihood on their hard work, determination, and the ability to overcome challenges. These early Montana entrepreneurs were rewarded with 160 acres to call their own and to build a life with. Usually, these 160 acre sections were split into more manageable 40 acre parcels. The parcels where the homesteaders decided to build their homes were often known as the "Home 40" for generations to come.
