Back in 1955, Dean Hicken founded The Kater Shop in Logan, Utah. Hicken, a former JC Penney employee, had a vision of a store that was able to "kater" to every menswear-related need. The Kater Shop would be dedicated to fulfilling all requests, regardless of what size or what item. The company stayed in the Hicken family all the up to 2009.
In 2009, the business was sold to Mike Hammond, a long-time employee of The Kater Shop. Now, the Hammond family operates The Kater Shop using the same values and core ideals that were perpetuated since its beginning in 1955.
