I take a disposition of curiosity when patients walk into my office and that’s because I believe they are the expert of their lived experience. I find that a powerful tool in our work together, since oftentimes people seek counseling in moments of struggle. I’m ready to listen about the different aspects of their struggles and while I listen, I also notice the tools they’ve already got to work through those challenges.
