United Cold Storage (UCS) is a public refrigerated warehouse with more than 350,000 square feet of frozen, refrigerated, and dry space. UCS serves the Greater Bay Area and the Port of Oakland.
UCS's original facility was built in 1938 as a meatpacking plant and continued into the 1950s. The facility evolved into a public refrigerated warehouse with the decline of the meatpacking industry in the area. It served a variety of frozen food purveyors, including being Safeway's first frozen distribution warehouse.
