About John Walsh
As an Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, John Walsh provides specialized care to individuals in acute settings. “I have spent my whole nursing career within the walls of a hospital and felt this arena suited me best,” he says. “There is always something to learn.”
In 2003, when John’s mother became ill for the first time and he spent time with her at the hospital, he realized he was cut out for a career in health care. His grandfather was a dentist and his great grandfather a surgeon, so this field was not a complete unknown for him.
He earned his undergraduate degree at Purdue University-Calumet and his master’s in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at Maryville University, St. Louis, MO. His experience has been in a neuroscience critical care unit, interventional radiology, and as a neuro-intensivist managing disease such as hypertension, chest pain, vascular pathologies and valve disorders.
John wants his patients to know that he cares deeply for them and that while he may not have all the right answers, he always cares enough to do the right thing. “I do whatever I can to help people,” he says.
In his own words…
Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My mother. I spent most of my childhood being raised by a single mother who did whatever it took to make sure I was cared for.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? Dairy Queen. I remember working the Fourth of July was exhausting.
What is your favorite food? Movie? Favorite food: BBQ Favorite movie: Gladiator
What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Best subjects were math and chemistry. Worst subject was English.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Gary Vaynerchuk, he has some very compelling ideas on success.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? Raising and spending time with my children.
What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy playing pool and competitive e-sports. I enjoy a wide variety of music.
