About Dr. Pechin

For Nicholas Pechin, medicine is in his blood. His father, brother and wife are all physicians and, along with his mother – who directed a medical laboratory and taught high school biomedical sciences – he was inspired to enter the field himself. “I felt the call to directly care for others and guide them through the highs and lows of their personal wellness.”

He chose Beacon to provide community care in a cutting?edge setting. “I believe that working with Beacon will allow me to provide the necessary resources and treatment modalities to achieve excellent outcomes.”

As a psychiatrist, Dr. Pechin provides care to those in the throes of mental illness. From therapy for those suffering from depression or anxiety to prescribing medication for patients with psychotic illness, he works with patients during some of the darkest times of their lives. “I have learned a great deal from patients in my time as a physician,” he says, “whether it be the depths of pain and suffering that can be a part of the human condition or the bravery, optimism and joy that can accompany a patient as they make their journey toward recovery.”

In his practice, Dr. Pechin hopes to both teach and model personal resilience and hope on a daily basis. “I practice medicine at the level of the patient, which changes from person to person,” he explains. “Some patients have social and family dynamics that need to be addressed, while others require medication and therapy to change deeply ingrained thought patterns or biochemical deficits. I aspire to tailor treatment to each individual to achieve the greatest improvement possible.”

In his own words…

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? It’s a tie. I learned problem solving and the ability to find joy during difficult times from my father, while I learned perseverance and kindness from my mother. I truly admire both.

What was your first job growing up? My first job was working on the maintenance crew at the local golf course. I remember the early morning dew and playing golf with friends after the work was done.

What is your favorite food? Movie? What was your best subject in school? My favorite food is my wife’s homemade sushi. My favorite movie is ever-changing, but I rarely change the channel when Forrest Gump is playing. In school, I excelled in math, while language arts could be a bit of a challenge.

If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? I would love to have dinner with my grandpa, Tom. There was always a twinkle in his eye and a story on the tip of his tongue.

In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies/interests? Outside of medicine, I can often be found on the golf course, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends. Time with loved ones is time well spent.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I grew up in nearby LaGrange, Indiana.
