Theory driven, pragmatic approach, compassionately motivated
After retiring from professional sports Duncan completed graduate training in counseling and sports psychology after recognizing that too many athletes pay a price mentally, emotionally, and socially while trying to achieve their potential in both sports and life. Access to qualified individuals with this dual training is important for the development and success of the athlete. For more than 5 years now Duncan has worked with athletes from rep sports to national team members across Canada to help them achieve their goals in life and in sports while attempting to maintain balance and longevity. Duncan's style and approach is guided by theory and delivered with a pragmatic and compassionate nature to it. Duncan's specialty is working with youth and young adults as this was the journey he took to elite sports.
Behind every young athlete is a supportive caregiver or family. More and more families are struggling to balance the needs of the young elite athlete and sometimes the family suffers. Duncan has seen relationships deteriorate because of this and wanted to help parents/couples repair their marriages and help strengthen their existing friendship. It was after Duncan and his wife attended a Gottman couples retreat one weekend in Seattle he was hooked and saw the potential in providing this service. Duncan has completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and uses this approach in his work with couples.
