Before shot of a duplex job we did. These stairs will be removed and a laundry closet will be built here.
The back door will remain as main entrance to lower unit.
original basement and cold storage room. To the right will be a bedroom and bathroom will be to the left. Existing plumbing that will be redone.
This will be the new kitchen. An Egress window will be added above the laundry sink.

Kitchen window will be removed and a new back door and small deck will be added for second exit from main floor unit.
Original toilet and water meter in basement. This will be new washroom and meter will be moved and mounted properly in bedroom closet.
Where water line came into house. Not a proper job done by previous owner. This is where the new meter will be relocated and will be a bedroom.
New water meter has been installed in bedroom 3. It is inside the closet. All windows were also replaced.
Bathroom is drywalled and painted. The upper unit has been rented so this was our washroom.
Former cold room is now a den. You can see the angle from the back of the stairs going to the front porch.
Bedroom 1. Window was replaced with a new window.
The kitchen is getting flooring installed. The new egress window can be seen here. We had to dig out for a window well then cut the foundation wall for the egress window.
Another angle of the kitchen. The original stairs are still there, they will be redone last.

Countertop has been installed and the appliances are in place. Egress window has been trimmed. The bare drywall is all getting tiled.
You can see the new wall we added in the kitchen when we removed the old basement stairs.
Ceramic tile is installed around tub in basement bathroom.
The tub did not go full length of the bathroom so we built a linen cupboard in it.
Sink and toilet are behind me.
The old stairs before we installed new treads and risers and handrails.
You can see the tile backsplash in the kitchen next to egress window.
Work begins on the stairs.

The yellow bulkhead was ordered by the building inspector since it was a low ceiling in the basement.
Inside the finished den /former cold room.
The door had to be cut down since it is smaller than any standard door.

hallway between main house and new inlaw suite. This is a fire rated wall with sound batts for soundproofing.
Drywall is up now I have to build some bulkheads to cover up the duct work.
more duct work that needs to be covered.
Starting to frame the bulkheads. They will be running around the outside of the main room in the inlaw suite.
I prefer to frame with steel for bulkheads as it is both faster and straighter than using wood.
Bulkheads in master bedroom.
looking down hall toward front door. I had to drop a lower ceiling as we had to cover exhaust fan, dryer vent and air supply .
bullhead over back door.

The stairs going into the basement had very low clearance. Being 6' I could not walk down straight up and had to lean to clear. We added more headroom by removing part of a floor joist. Bedroom in upper unit has box in it now.
looking from bedroom 2 towards bedroom 3. Washroom is on right, living room and kitchen is through arch to the left. The bearing wall in the basement split the space into two parts.
