En 1883, alors que Saint-Isidore n'était qu'un petit village tranquille, Joseph-Aimé Lanctôt fonda un magasin général. Son commerce a connu très rapidement un vif succès. Marchand général typique de l'époque, il offrait une gamme de produits très diversifiée. En 1920, Côme Lanctôt, le fils de Joseph-Aimé, fit son entrée au magasin général. Côme est le visionnaire qui jeta les bases de la spécialisation dans les produits offerts à la clientèle à ce moment-là . En 1940, Paul Lanctôt, père de l'actuel président Denis, se joignit à l'entreprise et son immense talent en ventes propulsa l'entreprise vers de nouveaux sommets. En 1948, André Lanctôt fit son entrée dans l'entreprise familiale. André fut le précurseur de la grande surface qu'est aujourd'hui Lanctôt. Sous la gouverne d'André, une division commerciale fut fondée en 1975. Côme, Paul et André furent les artisans de la spécialisation de Lanctôt dans le domaine des couvre-planchers. En 1986, Denis, Louis et Michel, respectivement fils de Paul et d'André, prennent la direction du commerce. Lanctôt connait à ce moment-là une période de développement sans précédent. Ce trio procéda au déménagement de l'entreprise dans un complexe commercial oeuvrant dans des secteurs connexes, notamment Ameublement Machabée et Portes et Fenètres Verdun. Ce geste fut posé dans un marché du couvre-plancher en effervescence, combiné à un bouleversement profond dans le commerce de détail. En 1998, Michel supervise l'implantation d'une succursale à Longueuil avant de prendre sa retraite en 2001. Louis et Denis ont dirigé le commerce familial en duo de 2001 à 2014, année du départ à la retraite de Louis. Ensemble, ils ont fait des choix significatifs, tant dans l'aménagement des magasins que dans le portefolio de produits offerts, tout en conservant un regard sur les besoins évolutifs de la clientèle. Aujourd'hui, sous l'unique gouverne de Denis, Lanctôt Couvre-sol Design poursuit plus que jamais sa mission d'offrir la plus vaste gamme de produits aux meilleurs prix. Secondée par une relève dynamique, une 5e génération de Lanctôt au magasin, c'est désormais une entreprise de plus de 90 employés, une forte division commerciale de 10 représentants, une division escaliers et boiseries, et toujours deux succursales pour mieux servir sa clientèle. Toujours fidèle aux traditions mais tourné vers l'avenir, Lanctôt conserve sa place de leader dans l'industrie des couvre-planchers du Québec.
