SBK heeft als doel de integrale kwaliteitszorg in de bouw te stimuleren en te bevorderen en de certificatie en attestering in de bouwsector te coördineren en te harmoniseren.Om dat doel te realiseren voert SBK de volgende taken uit:
• Het beheren van collectieve kwaliteitskeurmerken voor de bouw, die worden gebruikt voor de herkenbaarheid en betrouwbaarheid van certificatie en attestering; SBK heeft met verschillende geaccrediteerde certificatie-instellingen een licentieovereenkomst.
• Het adviseren van het Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijkrelaties en het Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Milieu ten aanzien van de erkenning van kwaliteitsverklaringen en ten aanzien van de Verordening Bouwproducten.
• Fungeren als liaison voor Nederland op het gebied van Europese regelgeving.
SBK heeft de volgende commissies:
• Harmonisatie Commissie Bouw
• Toetsingscommissie Bodemkwaliteit: toetst concept Beoordelingsrichtlijnen op juistheid van de opgenomen eisen van het Besluit bodemkwaliteit en de auditing ervan.
• Toetsingscommissie Bouwbesluit: toetst concept Beoordelingsrichtlijnen op juistheid van de opgenomen eisen t.a.v. de relevante eisen van het Bouwbesluit en op de afstemming op de Verordening Bouwproducten.
SBK wordt o.a. gefinancierd door de licentievergoeding voor het gebruik van de merken en voert opdrachten voor derden uit, zoals voor BZK, I&M, het Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Stichting KOMO.
