Léon Vermunt is in 1952 in Roosendaal geboren. Na zijn academische opleiding in Tilburg vestigde hij sins 1975 in Halsteren. Sinds gebruari 2001 woont hij in Wouwse Plantage, waar hij een atelier en bronsgieterij heeft.Hij is een van de weinige beeldende kunstenaars die zijn eigen beelden giet. In zijn atelier ontwerpt hij zijn beelden die hij volgens de ‘circe perdue’ methode afgiet in brons, en soms ook aluminium.
De kunstenaar laat zich in zijn werk inspireren door diverse thema’s, waaronder de vrouwelijke figuur, het paard en natuurlijke, organische vormen. Onderwerpen die op een expositie op een verassende wijze tot uiting komen.
Ronde vormen, een krachtige sierlijke lijnvoering en vooral elegantie maken zijn ode aan de vrouw uiterst tastbaar. Zijn beelden hebben het weke vlees achter zicg gelaten en krijgen de stoerheid van brons, de souplesse van vloeiend metaal en de oerkracht van de gloeiende massa.
