About

I have been based in Greymouth since 1990, initially as manager of a Government owned farmed consultancy business ann then with PGG Wrightson. Since late 2002, I have been operating my own private farm consultancy business throughout the greater West Coast district. My work across the dairy industry is varied. I tutor AgITO Production and Financial Management courses, working with new entrants to the dairy industry and those wanting to equip themselves with more skills and knowledge as the\y advance in their chosen vocation. I am working with farm owners and sharemilkers as they work to lift both their own performance and that of their property. I facilitate the FarmSafe Awareness programme throughout the West Coast, focussing on ways to make farms a safer place to work. I am also a tutor for the Rural Staff Management programme throughout the top half of the South Island, working with staff managers and employers, helping them develop more effective and successful employment relationships.Investment in dairy farms has become popular throughout New Zealand in recent years and the West Coast has been part of this trend. I am involved with a number of farms owned by investors from outside the dairy industry, farmers with properties on the West Coast and farmers from outside the region, all looking to broaden their property portfolios. The West Coast, just like any farming region, has its own unique set of challenges and in the time I’ve been here, I have enjoyed working with farmers, developing innovative solutions to traditional problems – helping farming families and their staff overcome the barriers that prevent them from achieving the goals they have set themselves.West Coast dairying has gone from strength to strength over recent years. In the past ten years, the numbers of suppliers to Westland Milk Products has increased by almost 15%, with the average production per farm almost doubling. The average farm size has increased as land, previously in dry stock farming, has converted to dairying and further investment has seen less productive land developed into high producing pasture. As a result, both per cow and per hectare production has continued to increase. There’s more to the West Coast than meets the eye. Look beyond the bush clad hills and you’ll find farmers the equal of, or better, of any you’d find in New Zealand. Innovative approaches to farming under variable climatic conditions have resulted in productivity and profitability gains the envy of many in other districts. There’s bound to be some issues you’d like to get a bit more information on – feel free to contact me to discuss them or any background on properties or issues you may be interested in. I trust you’ll find something in this portfolio that interests you and I look forward to your contact.Services provided such as technical management, feasibility studies, farm supervision, financial management, farm safety programmes, property evaluations, benchmark
