The Nelson Youth Theatre Company provides a creative outlet for youth and opportunities for young actors to extend and challenge themselves through drama productions in Nelson, including workshops from tertiary level theatre practitioners and educators. We aim to provide a fun and enjoyable hobby for young people from 10-25 years of age, whilst encouraging the development of self motivation, self-discipline and leadership skills. We take pride in bringing enjoyment, laughter and delight to a wide ranging theatre audience, by providing high quality entertainment in theatre productions.Founded in January 2000, the Nelson Youth Theatre Company is run entirely by volunteers and to date has produced over 75 shows and run over 50 professionally taught theatre courses for young people in Nelson. We do not run drama classes as such, but run from show to show performing a wide range of genres, including one act festivals, comedies, farces, pantomimes, dramas and big named musicals (including Les Miserables, Sound of Music and Annie). The Nelson Youth Theatre Company has worked hard to establish itself as a company of talented productions. We are proud to provide scholarships for youth actors to attend local, national or international training courses in theatre arts, as well as donating free seats to disadvantaged children in the region to attend each major show we perform. We also promote the work of SLUM ART KENYA, an outreach programme of the Nelson Youth Theatre Company, providing artistic resources and training for children living in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. For shows, auditions and further information see our website, www.nelsonyouththeatre.co.nz.If you would like to know more about the theatre company please contact Melanie on 5482418 or e-mail youtheatre@xtra.co.nz.
