Hace más de 144 años, en Arequipa, segunda ciudad del Perú, nació Laboratorios Portugal, como parte de una empresa familiar conducida por Don José Fermín Portugal Puertas. Dicha organización, dedicada al Comercio y a la Industria, se concentraba en esa época en la conformación de un centro farmacéutico, al que inscribieron como J.F. Portugal Hijos S.A., la misma que expendería los productos desarrollados por el flamante Laboratorio. Desde un inicio la identificación de los productos de Laboratorios Portugal con el pueblo y sus necesidades de salud, fue clara y sólida. La joven empresa tuvo que enfrentar, en aquellos difíciles tiempos, más de un percance, pero siempre logró salir airosa. En las primeras décadas del siglo XX, los productos creados y elaborados por Laboratorios Portugal, ya jugaban un importante rol en la salud, no sólo de la población del sur del Perú, sino que incluso alcanzaba países vecinos como Bolivia y Chile. En el ámbito laboral, acogía cada vez a más personas en sus instalaciones. En aquella época, la empresa ya se hallaba conducida por la segunda generación representada por Don José Agustín Portugal Escobedo, quien luego de prepararse en los Estados Unidos y Europa, continuó imprimiendo a la labor de la empresa la misma mística que le diera origen, es decir, la búsqueda de calidad enmarcada en una filosofía de servicio.Dirección y teléfono de Laboratorios Portugal Cerro Colorado
