The village of Graskop was established in 1880, and as it lies on the Drakensberg escarpment above the lowveld it has a pleasant, cooler climate with mild winters. In a malaria-free area, it is easily reached from the Lowveld via Kolwyn's Pass, from Sabie or from Pilgrims Rest. Its main economic activity revolves around forestry as the town lies in a grassy clearing in the extensive pine plantations of the area. It retains much of its rural charm. Graskop is an ideal location for nature lovers as it is only 42km from the Kruger National Park - perfect for day tripping, and for the more active, the town offers bungi jumping over the nearby gorge, and some of the best hiking trails in the country.
