Children's Eco Training was founded by Sandy Wilkes in 2004. Initally the focus was on environmental education programmes offered to the children of staff in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve who go to schools in the Acornhoek area (+ 100 km from home). CET identified various needs in the community and embarked on a number of Projects During school holidays students aged 6 to 16 attend a four-day course in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. The focus is on global ecological topics. In a fun way, technical skills, awareness and literacy are transferred using the natural environment. They learn to put into practice what they have learnt and to propagate the priniciples beyond the Klaserie boundaries. A link was established between the Cape Town based charitable organization, MAD (Make a Difference), Southern Cross Schools and CET. MAD & Southern Cross Schools grant the scholarships and CET selects and monitors the progress of the students. Three scholars were enrolled at Southern Cross Schools in January 2009. The tri-annual publication of Children's Eco Training is a powerful tool that serves as the KPNR voice globally. It also visually projects the image of CET and keeps all donors and interested parties updated on the latest developments in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. It serves as a source of information on local happenings and conservation news.
