Warren Marine (Pty) Ltd., t/a CIRCE LAUNCHES, established the passenger launch service to the Cape Fur Seal and Sea bird colony at Duiker Island, Hout Bay, in 1972. The original vessels used for this run, were the m.v. Circe and the m.v. R9, two World War 2, Air Sea Rescue boats. In 2001, CIRCE LAUNCHES welcomed their new vessel, m.v. Calypso to the fleet. She was built in Hout Bay, by Warren Marine (Pty) Ltd. Experience of the local weather and sea condition was carried through in her design, for passenger comfort and safety. She has ample outside deck seating, upper deck viewing and comfortable, inside cabin seating. She is the only glass bottomed passenger launch in South Africa with the unique attraction of two glass viewing ports at the bottom of the boat. During good visibility, our passengers are able to get a first hand view of the kelp forests and abundant sea life, underwater at Duiker Island. Her powerful engines enable our professional crew to bring the vessel within metres of the island, for really close up views of the Cape Fur Seals in their natural environment.
