In 1996 a free psychological service for the disadvantaged community was established by a concerned psychologist and a social worker at Stellenbosch Hospital. Good Hope Psychological Service was launched in 2003 at the TC Newman Day Hospital in Paarl as a result of a call for help from the state psychiatrist and was modelled on the service in Stellenbosch. The service in Stellenbosch and Paarl aims to bring hope to suffering people and to be part of the bigger social solution in South Africa by addressing the psychological needs of poor communities. Good Hope Psychological Service is a registered non-profit organisation (054 297 NPO) and is exempted by South African Revenue Service from paying tax on donations received.
