It was yet another manifestation of what magic can be achieved by people with vision and guts to rally the energies and the talent in this industry. Remember, I wrote the last time around about the great multi-curltural Starlight Classics happening at Vergelegen? Well, in the case of the Oesfees it was a rather more downmarket – or down-to-earth – affair. But certainly incredibly meaningful and necessary in the context of nation-building. This was Solms Delta wine farm’s third annual harvest festival for the workers, featuring an abundance of traditional, vernacular music and cuisine of the Cape winelands. What had started out as an opskop for the workers, has grown into a massive, exuberant event – where you have farm workers and festival-goers from all walks of life and all population groups doing the skoffel, rock and riel in the straw in front of the stage.
