Dr. Ndlovu worked as a professional nurse within the team, the clinical instructor for the Bcur students of the University of Zululand, a professional nurse in charge of various wards, a zonal matron, an Assistant Director for patient care, and later taking up a challenging post of a Deputy Director, Nursing services (Chief Matron) at Ngwelezana Regional Hospital at Empangeni. Dr. Ndlovu is one amongst the first cohort of nurses in KwaZulu-Natal who bravely took the challenge of becoming Hospital managers when the candidature for such posts was opened to non-medical staff, and she was appointed into a post of a Hospital Manager at Nkonjeni District Hospital at Mahlabathini. Through her strong people management and leadership, Dr. Ndlovu turned the hospital around in its physical outlook, systems and processes and the general ethos and the attitude of staff within a period of two years. Dr. Ndlovu’s courage and dedication to serve was not limited to managing at district level. In January 2005 she was appointed to manage another highly challenging regional hospital, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Durban. In spite of the overwhelming challenges, professionally, clinically, politically and otherwise, Dr. Ndlovu remained unruffled, and instead emerged victorious. She turned the hospital around within a period of three years, leaving it in 2007at the level of a benchmark for observable quality improvement projects for other hospitals within and outside the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Ndlovu has enormous experience in handling labour relations issues, demonstrating such expertise in investigating and presiding over a number of serious misconduct cases within the Department of Health. Dr. Ndlovu projects an image of highest personal and professional integrity, and is a mentor and a role model to a number of professionals and managers.
