The Waterberg Country Lodge is rated as a 4 star guest lodge by the South African tourism council. It is situated 2.5 hours from Central Gauteng near the town of Thabazimbi in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It is at the divide between the wild South African bushveld to its east and the great Botswana plains to its west. The lodge offers a tranquil getaway on the border of the Marakeli National park. And is most popular for its remote location below the majestic 200 meter high cliffs that acts as a breeding ground for a large colony of endangered Cape vultures. Game drives are undertaken to view the "Big 5" in a variety of surrounding parks. The lodge is the ideal location to overnight before making trips into Botswana. It gives tourists the opportunity to plan a round trip from Johannesburg to the less crowded yet spectacular western bushveld area before visiting the tropical north and then the Kruger Park in the east. The Lodge offers a relaxed and quiet unspoilt African bushveld environment with six en suite luxurious rooms. Each room has a veranda that overlooks the landscaped garden and fountains. It is an ideal “restful countryside breakaway” for those wanting to escape the stresses of work to just spend a few days relaxing in the beautiful surroundings of the lodge while reading, painting or drawing. Week days are particularly quiet and guests often find themselves being the only visitors during this time. The lodge is also often used for “strategy breakaway sessions” by small companies. During the day they run their strategy sessions in the garden under the trees and at night they can continue in the comfort of the lodge. Traditional South African Cuisine and wine is offered in the sociable dinning room and picnic lunches are available on request.
