Combating the stereotypes of martial arts, we emphasize that martial arts actually helps teach self-discipline and socialization skills. In fact, many of the parents of my students who have attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders (ADHD) and Autism report improvements in their children’s self-control and concentration. My students learn respect, whether from bowing or standing still and waiting for the next command, which can be the most important benefit.
