Western Sun Federal Credit Union began in 1940 when employees and family members of the Barnsdall Oil Company in Tulsa, OK, pooled their resources to form a cooperative financial institution. They named it Tulsa Be Square Federal Credit Union. The name was changed in 1963 to Tulsa DX Federal Credit Union and again in 1970 to Western Sun Federal Credit Union.
