Intelligently designed with an eye for aesthetics and practicality, French Door Refrigerators have become the most popular type of fridge on the market today. Their unique design has the refrigeration compartment at chest level. The freezer is now at the bottom. It is an efficient setup because the fridge is much more often used than the freezer. Two doors of equal size (similar to "french doors", thus giving the design its name) open out from the unit. Since only one of these doors usually needs to be open to access the refrigeration unit, energy is saved because there is correspondingly less inflow of heat from the outside.
Distinct from the somewhat similar side by side fridges, a french door fridge contains full width shelves. This allows for easy storage of bulky or wide items such as pizza boxes. Door bins, with this design, also tend to be deep and spacious, allowing for the placement of large containers and bottles.
