I was initially drawn to the field of mental health because of its complexity and the fact that every day brings new experiences and challenges. As I continued in the profession, I found it especially rewarding to witness patients gain greater insight into their lives and experiences. I value being present for those moments of growth and discovery, including the small breakthroughs that can make a meaningful difference.I am passionate about helping patients reconnect with their sense of power, control and ownership over their lives. At times, life can feel overwhelming, as though we are being carried along by forces beyond our control. My goal is to help patients recognize their strengths, build resilience and regain a sense of agency and empowerment. One experience that has stayed with me involved an elementary school-aged child who came to therapy for anxiety that was causing physical symptoms and difficulties in school. I was initially told that participating in therapy would be challenging for her. With time, conversation and reasonable accommodations, she became deeply engaged in the therapeutic process. It was a privilege to see her use her creativity and intellect to navigate challenges beyond her years. I was continually impressed by her perspective, vulnerability and willingness to step outside her comfort zone, and it was rewarding to see her leave therapy feeling happier and more prepared to face future challenges.Outside of work, I enjoy activities that help me stay grounded and maintain balance. I love cooking and have spent decades both as a restaurant cook and a home cook. I also value spending time with my family and engaging in activities that help me step away from daily stressors and appreciate life. When I can, I enjoy playing Magic: The Gathering and mountain biking with friends. Spending time with others while focused on activities I enjoy helps me stay resilient and recharged.
