About

My clinical interests include endovascular infections, viral hepatitis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). I am also interested in caring for infectious diseases in persons with substance use disorders. My research is broadly focused on the intersection of infectious diseases and substance use disorders. I utilize large datasets to study invasive infections such as infective endocarditis and bone, joint and spine infections affecting people who inject drugs, in both North Carolina and the US. My work aims to describe the incidence of such infections and characterize patient outcomes. Therefore, my work also focuses on improving the care of patients hospitalized with severe infections in North Carolina, including determining how best to deliver addiction treatment and harm reduction services. I am also interested in Hepatitis C epidemiology, as well as clinical practice issues related to the delivery of outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT).My work draws on epidemiologic and health services research methods and I regularly partner with collaborators in public health, cardiac surgery and behavioral science.
