Born in China and raised in Pennsylvania, Dr. Tang earned his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania before completing M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at MUSC. His research on vitamin A metabolism in inherited retinal diseases received NIH and Research to Prevent Blindness funding. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Stanford University. After practicing surgical retina and ocular oncology in Minnesota, he joined the Storm Eye Institute at MUSC in 2023. Dr. Tang is board-certified in ophthalmology and specializes in surgical retina and ocular oncology.
