At Lake Region Therapy Services, our primary tool in treatment of pain is a therapeutic technique called Myofascial Release or MFR. Fascia is a tough connective tissue that is spread throughout the body. In its normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When fascia loses its flexibility, it becomes a source of tension and chronic pain. is a gentle hands on technique directed at fascial restrictions to eliminate pain and to restore motion. Injury such as a fall, whiplash, surgery or the lack of normal motion that often accompanies arthritic conditions has a cumulative effect. Tightened fascia can exert pressure that produces pain and headaches leading to further loss of normal movement causing more pain. This vicious cycle is often the source of chronic pain for which medication provides only temporary relief.
