Ken Winschel began his career in the carpet business in 1945 at Hellrung & Grimm. After a few years he moved to Sears Roebuck, selling carpet and scheduling installation crews.
In 1955 he opened his own business. He began by cleaning carpets and working from his station wagon. He then moved into a building on Natural Bridge road. He was cleaning carpets as well as installing.
In 1976, Winschel moved his business to Florissant, at 2060 North Highway 67, where the business stands today. Winschel is semi-retired, his son and daughter now run the operations.
Winschel Carpet Service, Inc. is a union shop associated with local 1920.
