We believe in great music, from metal to classic rock to jazz. And we believe in the beautiful machines that make these sounds come to life.
We also believe that far too much of the modern music instrument industry is sucking the life, the spirit, out of the next generation of iconic sounds. In fact, the modern-day corporate entities that own many of the most revered instrument companies are truly tarnishing the legacy of their founders.
The creators of these classic designs, after all, weren’t trying to create collectors’ items that commanded the highest price premium possible over parts and labor. In fact, instruments like the electric guitar and bass were directly challenging the overpriced dinosaurs of their day: big, expensive archtop jazz guitars and upright basses.
These new solid body music machines were engineering marvels built with one thing in mind: working musicians. This new generation of instruments were built like rocks, road-ready, and enabled volume projection that let bands be louder, more portable, and more versatile than ever before.
The utterly unprecedented palette of tones didn’t hurt. Entire new genres were formed on the backbone of these revolutionary sounds. These classic designs were never “cheap.” But they were the sort of machines a kid could save up for over the summer and make music with for decades.
And that’s the legacy we strive to build the Sunfield brand on.
