I first became interested in medicine a few years into my career as a high school teacher and athletics coach, after training as a Wilderness First Responder and later an EMT so I could provide emergency care to injured or ill students.From there, my fascination with medicine grew quickly. I especially enjoy teaching neonatal and pediatric resuscitation protocols to multidisciplinary medical teams, and I have maintained Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Pediatric Advanced Life Support instructor status throughout my medical career.After completing residency at University of Vermont Medical Center, I spent four years in an underserved region of Montana as part of my National Health Service Corps service commitment. There, I saw the effects of poverty and limited health care access and learned to manage complex and emergent medical situations with fewer resources.I love the outdoor recreation available in this region, including hiking, running, cycling and skiing. I also enjoy spending time with my wife and our two adult children, and I play violin in a band.
