Dr. Maya Youness, DDS, is an assistant professor at Columbia University's College of Dental Medicine in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a specialty in Orofacial Pain. Dr. Youness is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and completed her residency training in Orofacial Pain at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Massachusetts General Hospital. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and holds degrees in Neuroscience and Spanish from the University of Michigan.

In addition to her administrative and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Youness' clinical expertise includes diagnosis and treatment of chronic orofacial pain conditions including temporomandibular disorders (TMD), trigeminal neuralgia and neuropathies, and headaches. She also provides treatment of obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliances. Dr. Youness hopes to spread awareness of chronic pain among the dental profession: she has published research on chronic postsurgical temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, authored multiple textbook chapters, and presented at a number of conferences and continuing education courses on chronic pain topics including rheumatological disorders, pain management during pregnancy, persistent post-surgical pain, and migraine management.
