Universal Ballet Competition (UBC) is South Florida’s premier student ballet competition. UBC is hosted annually by its sister company, Shake the Ground, in South Florida, an advantageous location due to its diverse population, support of the cultural arts, and attraction to tourists worldwide.
Universal Ballet Competition (UBC) was created in response to the overwhelming requests for a ballet competition to be held in South Florida. Two of UBC’s founding members, Lissette Salgado and David Lucas, are former Principal ballet dancers with extensive and impressive careers. Their combined list of professional contacts allows them the privilege and honor to hail principal dancers, company directors, and ballet school directors from all over the country to form the judge’s panel, mentor, and teach the intensive workshops. For the most talented dancers, judges extend scholarships to their renowned summer intensive and year-round programs and/or offer professional contracts. It is through this platform that UBC delivers a well-organized, non-biased, professionally run competition.
