In addition to providing didactic and and pharmacy practice experiences, ACP also plays an important role in positively impacting economic development, education and healthcare in the Appalachian region.

Garden Hall is a renovated 1940 Civilian Conservation Corps building containing approximately 25,000 square feet. The two story structure houses a gymnasium, Library and Learning Resource Center, student laboratory, faculty research facility, Business Office, Student Affairs Office, Office of the Registrar, Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, student and staff lounges, and the College’s boardroom. Events such as the White Coat Ceremony, Awards Banquet, Career Fair, and Graduation take place within Garden Hall.

Giving back to the community is the very foundation of Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP). We strive to serve the underserved people of our region. The mission of serving the underserved is woven into the very fabric of our institution, and this core value is reinforced within numerous academic courses, outreach initiatives, the wellness clinic and pharmacy, and through student volunteer projects. It is our hope that each student leaves ACP with this same passion for service in their future endeavors.

Located in Southwest Virginia, Appalachian College of Pharmacy offers a three-year doctor of pharmacy program, and is committed to serving the needs of rural and under-served communities in Appalachia as well as throughout the world.

The College is strategically positioned in Buchanan County, Virginia, which shares borders with Kentucky and West Virginia in the center of the Appalachian coalfields. The Appalachian region faces significant economic and educational barriers, as well as healthcare challenges. A previous report to the Virginia Legislature documented that residents of Southwest Virginia have difficulty obtaining and paying for healthcare, including dental and pharmaceutical care. By bringing higher education and advances in healthcare to the region, the College is well-positioned to be a catalyst for positive changes in economic development, education, and healthcare.

ACP provides a number of opportunities for students to gain leadership experience and get involved in the profession of pharmacy. These leadership skills built during your college education can lead to greater success in your future career.

The experiential curriculum is designed to provide students with the confidence, knowledge, skills, and attitude required to function as competent and professional pharmacy practitioners. The experiential curriculum is divided into three parts of sequentially increasing levels of sophistication in competencies and outcomes expectations – Early Pharmacy Practice Experience (EPPE), Core Pharmacy Practice Experience (CPPE), and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE). Both EPPE and CPPE comprise the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences for ACP.

ACP offers a sequence of courses designed to lead to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Requirements for the PharmD degree include completion of a minimum of 146 credits, including more than 1,700 hours of experiential coursework, and three academic years of full-time residence. In addition, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of C (2.0) or better in order to progress and graduate.
