Recently, I caught up with Oxford High School graduate, Curtis Sanders, at an OHS football game. Curtis was one of the first recipients of the Matthew Maniscalco scholarship back in 2023.
Curtis is a sophomore at Alabama A&M University pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. Most recently, he was honored to be selected to the National Society of Leadership and Success. While Curtis loves college, he told me he misses the people of Oxford the most. Please join me in congratulating Curtis for all of his success while representing his hometown with pride!

What a privilege to spend the day with the juniors and seniors at Oxford High School’s Reality Check today. Zach and I helped the students learn more about budgeting and financial responsibly in the working world. Today’s spotlight is on 2023 Oxford grad and Matthew Maniscalco scholarship recipient, Keziah Mickler. She currently is a sophomore majoring in nursing at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she also is a sprinter on the indoor and outdoor track teams. Keziah says the most challenging part of her college experience so far has been balancing Anatomy, Physiology II, and Microbiology in the same semester. Despite these challenges, she has enjoyed meeting new friends, participating in track, and attending events like Rock the Rec on UAH’s campus. Keziah says it’s been a challenge to balance academic responsibilities with her social life and extracurricular activities, but she takes time to study every day. For the remainder of her college career, Keziah’s goals are to successfully complete nursing school, keep improving her track performances, and continue being an active and supportive member of her sorority. Please join me in cheering on Keziah both on and off the track! You make us proud!

Everybody show some love for Oxford’s Jamea Gaston! In May, Jamea received a scholarship in my name, and she is now a freshman at the University of Alabama. She is majoring in kinesiology with concentration in exercise science and has been named to the UA Dean’s List. When she’s not pouring all of her energy into studying, Jamea really enjoys showing her school spirit. She recently attended the basketball Iron Bowl on campus! What a pleasure to follow Oxford City Schools graduate Curtis Sanders as he starts his college experience at Alabama A&M University. In May, Curtis was one of the first recipients of a scholarship in my name. I had the chance to catch up with him last week and learn how things are going for him.

C: I chose Electrical Engineering.

C: I want to achieve a 3.5 GPA and have perfect attendance in all my classes.
