Storage Unit Design. As an expert witness in a federal court case in which the plaintiff wanted damages based on violation of trade dress, Dr. Guild designed and implemented a study to assess the inherent distinctiveness and secondary meaning associated with a specific architectural design of storage units. The results of the study demonstrated that the design was neither inherently distinctive nor was there any secondary meaning associated with it. As a result, the court ruled against the plaintiff on the matter of trade dress.
