The First Haitian Church of God Philadelphia is a Pentecostal church located in Philadelphia city. It was established in the year 2000.As a Pentecostal church, it emphasizes on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and personal experience with God. The church is one of the fastest growing churches in the Philadelphia. The First Haitian Church of God was among the first churches to be established in the area to cater for the Haitian population. Though it started with a handful of members, it now has thousand of members including some who are not natives of Haiti. While it began as weekly bible study in the living room of one of the leaders, today it holds Sunday school and weekly services.
The First Haitian Church of God is one of the leading Haitian Protestant churches that were established in the current century. It consists mostly of Haitian Protestants who were converted from Catholicism. In the recent past, there has been an influx of Haitians into Philadelphia and the First Haitian Church of God was established to cater for this population. It is estimated that there are an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 Haitians in Philadelphia. This was in comparison to the 1980s when there was a population of 3,000 Haitians. This has led to the rise of this local non-denominational church to cater for this population.
