Being a native of Rome and Floyd County, I have had the privilege to live and work in this area most of my life. Once I had graduated from Model High School, I joined the U.S. Army and was assigned
to the Corp. of Engineers serving in both Korea and Japan. After being Honorably Discharged with a slight disability, I attended
Coosa Valley Tech. where I studied Drafting & Design
and Computer Programming. After graduating I worked in Telephone Engineering for several years, but was always interested in learning about general construction, which was booming at the time. A friend told me of an opening with a local Home Builder here in Rome, Wayne Robinson Builder/Developer Inc.
I drove around Rome looking at some of the projects that he
had going and decided this was my chance to learn first quality
work from one of the best in the business. I consider myself fortunate that Wayne decided to hire me, as this turned out to be the best job and education in construction that I could have hoped for. By the mid to late 80's and after 4 years of learning from and working with Wayne, I reluctantly decided to go out on my own.
Since that time, I have had the opportunity to work with some
of the finest people, whether they were Home Owners, Realtors
or Commercial Businesses on projects large and small. For more than 25 years, my work included all phases and all crafts within construction on both Residential and Commercial. As it turned out, the bulk of my business was going into homes or businesses and correcting the issues that other contractors had left.
This particular niche for my business came as a result of the days when anyone that owned a hammer would call themselves a builder. Some of you will remember those days. The implementation of more stringent Building Codes and licensing requirements came as a direct result of the work of these "so-called contractors". So my Home Inspection training actually started way back then and it continues on today, as a graduate of AHIT (American Home Inspector Training Institute's) Master Certification Program. The only difference now is that I issue a written Home Inspection Report instead of an estimate for repairs.
Home Inspection is something that I enjoy doing and it is very gratifying to me in knowing that I am helping individuals with making a very important decision for themselves and for their families. I have seen first hand how some Home Inspectors can be in a rush, it seems, probably because they have another house lined up for inspection. Because of this fast pace, they inevitably miss things that should be included in the Home Inspection. A proper Home Inspection is a slow and methodical process that involves detailed descriptions of the findings. Obviously, the more things that are found to be inadequate, the longer the report will take to write. However, the details covered within the report, along with descriptive and marked-up photos, are what make a good and thorough Home Inspection Report. This is why I only schedule one Home Inspection for any given day. I take my time and look at the home as if I were buying it for myself. The Summary Pages of my Home Inspection Report, lists the findings for each location and gives clear recommendations of what should be done in any given situation.
Experience and commitment is what I have to offer in Home Inspection. Working hard and having a great sense of pride in what I do has always been a part of my life. It has carried me through all of my life and has kept me very busy, no matter what I do. I take pride in educating each customer with the Home Inspection Report that I provide, knowing that my work ethic, construction experience and attention to detail will show in each report.
The bottom line is, "I enjoy what I do, in helping and educating".
