About Dr. Stickley
Meet Dr. Jamie Stickley. After beginning her undergraduate work as a biology major, focused on marine life, she discovered she enjoyed it more as a hobby than a career choice. “I grew up with two severely hearing-impaired grandparents,” she says. “So, I decided to combine my interests in science and my passion for helping people into a future as an audiologist instead.”
Dr. Stickley helps people who have hearing and balance disorders, with an emphasis on treating hearing loss using hearing aids and/or cochlear implants. “My goal will always be to help patients perform their best and I will make recommendations until I believe we have achieved it,” Dr. Stickley explains. “I have many patients who make their way to me for care simply because I am willing to discuss issues that others may have dismissed. I am always happy to troubleshoot until all options have been exhausted.”
Her philosophy of care represents more than a viewpoint– she considers it a partnership. “I am committed to providing high quality, compassionate care by successfully blending open communication, evidence-based practices and respect for patient and family concerns.”
“One of my previous co-workers often told me I was born to be an audiologist,” Jamie says. “I do feel that my profession is a God-given calling. I truly love what I do, and I think that is reflected in the way that I care for my patients.”
In her own words…
Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? Both of my grandmothers greatly influenced who I am today.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I was a dishwasher at a local restaurant. I have vivid memories of how disgustingly dirty I was after every shift!
What is your favorite food? Mexican cuisine is certainly a favorite. However, I am probably best known for my love of popcorn and root beer floats (something that I and my grandmothers shared).
What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? I was/am so bad at fractions that it is still an ongoing joke in my family. My best subject was language arts.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? My maternal grandmother. I miss her dearly and I have a list of questions I need her advice on!
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I’m passionate about people in general. We all have a story that has made us into who we are today. I love getting to know individuals, to learn from them, and their backgrounds.
What are your hobbies, interests? I have spent many years volunteering for the Diocese of Ft. Wayne - South Bend, in young adult ministry, which inspired me to enroll at Notre Dame to study Theology. Additionally, my family has a lake cottage near Grand Rapids Michigan, where I spend as much free time at as possible. When I am able, I really enjoy traveling, especially internationally.
