Dr. Mac Abernathy is psychiatrist at the University of Vermont Medical Center and assistant professor at the Larner College of Medicine at UVM in Burlington, VT. He specializes in consult-liason psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and pain psychiatry. He is also trained in neurology.
Before Dr. Abernathy went to medical school, he came to understand that the quickest way to bring about positive change in the world was to teach other people and heal the sick. Becoming a physician was the culmination of his desire to have a positive impact in the lives of patients, while also engaging in an ethical profession that would always be challenging. Dr. Abernathy trained in both neurology and psychiatry so that he could maximally understand the brain and behavior in a clinical setting. He enjoys training the next generation of physicians by teaching medical students and residents.
