I've been a practicing geriatrician for over 20 years in both ambulatory care (primary care and consults) and in the hospital setting. I joined University of Vermont Medical Center as the Associate Chief for Clinical Affairs for the Division of Geriatrics. I have extensive experience caring for very complex and frail patients who are on multiple medications and have many medical problems often complicated by memory loss and/or depression.I've always enjoyed interacting with older individuals, even before I started my career. Taking care of complex problems and spending a lot of time with patients and their families/caregivers are some of the most rewarding aspects of being a geriatrician. My care philosophy is centered on maintaining function and quality of life. If needed, I also have experience in palliative care and leading difficult conversations. My hope is that, for each and every patient, I can understand their goals and try to address the issues that are most important to them.My research in improving processes for the delivery of quality care to vulnerable elderly in all settings (inpatient, outpatient and nursing home care) reinforces my patient care practices.
