Durch das Portal an der Westseite des soliden Turm-Bauwerks aus grauem und rötlichem Sandstein gelangt man in das nun 150 Jahre alte Kirchenschiff. Zu seiner Vorgeschichte: Bereits 1753 wurde festgestellt, dass sich die viel zu kleine Kirche in einem fürchterlichen Zustand befände und nicht mehr repariert werden könnte. Am 27. März 1754 drohte gar die Kanzel einzustürzen. Ab 1759 errichtete man ein geräumigeres Schiff als zuvor. Das hielt aber keine hundert Jahre Stand. Eine Restaurierung war nicht möglich, weil sich das Gebäude als baufällig erwies. Die Gemeinde beantragte deshalb 1841 eine Erweiterung.
