Aus der Ferne prägt der Kirchturm mit seinem überaus schlanken, weithin sichtbaren Spitzhelm die unverwechselbare Silhouette des Ortes Kerspleben und ist damit gleichsam eines seiner Wahrzeichen. Die Kirche von Kerspleben ist eine barocke Saalkirche, die zwischen 1719 und 1721 entstand. Ihre Vorgängerin war eine vermutlich im 14. Jhd. an neuer Stelle erbaute Kirche St. Peter und Paul; der ursprüngliche Standort einer gleichnamigen Kirche oder Kapelle lag entfernt im südlichen Teil des Ortes. Dieses Patrozinium könnte auf den früh belegten Einfluss des Erfurter Petersklosters in Kerspleben zurück gehen. Mit dem Kirchen-Neubau rückte die Gemeinde aus heute nicht mehr nachvollziehbaren Gründen vonihrem alten Peter- und Pauls-Patrozi
